How to Care for Satin Without Losing the Shine
Share
Satin is loved for its smooth hand and luminous surface, which also means rough handling can show quickly. The most important rule is simple: follow the garment's care label first.
Satin Is a Weave, Not One Fiber
A satin finish can be made from polyester, silk or other fibers. That changes what the garment can safely tolerate, so there is no single universal wash method.
Washing
When hand washing is allowed, cool water and a small amount of mild detergent are a safe starting point. Avoid hard rubbing, twisting and wringing.
Drying
Gently press excess moisture between clean towels and air dry away from harsh direct heat. Do not tumble dry unless the care label specifically allows it.
Wrinkles
Use the lowest suitable steam or iron setting for the fiber. Work from the reverse side when possible and use a pressing cloth for delicate surfaces.
Storage
Keep clean satin dry, avoid crushing bows and ruffles, and separate stockings or delicate fabrics from jewelry, rough zippers and sharp fasteners.
