Hatshepsut: When Kingship Changed Form
Share
Hatshepsut deserves history before symbolism.
She began as regent during the early reign of Thutmose III and over time assumed the full titles and ceremonial functions of Egyptian kingship. Her visual presentation developed across multiple forms before settling into the conventional male body and regalia of the office, while texts could still identify her grammatically as female.
That does not make her a modern identity category. It makes the historical material more interesting than a simple label.
