Before a Man Becomes a Symbol, He Deserves His Own Life

Senenmut can be turned into almost anything a modern imagination needs: secret lover, hidden architect, victim, magician, reincarnational key.

The surviving record is more disciplined. It gives us administration, royal service, responsibility around Neferure, Amun's estate, works, monuments, TT71, TT353 and an extraordinary celestial program. It gives us much less certainty about his private emotions, death or final burial.

The Better Mirror

The strongest modern resonance is not “I used to be important.” It is the responsibility to turn vision into organized matter without erasing the many people required to build it.

Resonance can open inquiry. It cannot close the case.
